The Team

The Development Operations (Dev/Ops) team provides a full range of network, infrastructure and application support to our internal (office and remote) and external customers located worldwide. The value our products and services bring to our customers are based on having highly reliable and performing applications and infrastructure that allows our customers to operate efficiently, effectively, safely and securely. Among the operating systems, infrastructure, and applications that we rely on include: Windows, Linux, VMware, NetApp, Cisco and HP routing and switching, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics SL, NetBackup, and OpenStack. In our communication space we provision and maintain a large customer utilized network infrastructure consisting of VSAT terminals with auto-aiming dishes and leading edge cellular data technologies (HSPA, LTE).

The Role

Pason is currently recruiting a Remote Communications Network Professional to join a team of dynamic professionals engaged in the delivery of communication services for the drilling industry. This role ensures the stability and integrity of field deployed voice, data, video and wireless network services. In addition, the Remote Communications Network Professionalwill participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.  The individual will work with internal teams and external customers to analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide user training and documentation where required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Key contributor to a team responsible for design, security, management and maintenance of a large scale satellite and wireless network system
  • Provide Tier 2 and 3 support across both satellite (iDirect), HSPA and HSPA+ networks on Linux and Cisco platforms
  • Daily maintenance on various satellite networks, i.e. load balancing of networks and inroutes, QOS profiles
  • Install, configure and maintain network hardware, systems, and software
  • Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning
  • Document problems, procedures, and activities associated with communications hardware, providing proven resolutions

Essential Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a Networking Systems Diploma
  • CCNA, CCNP or CCIE certifications would be an asset
  • 5+ years of experience operating and administering a large scale satellite and wireless network system in a 24 x 7 environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Networking experience including: switches, routers, hubs, servers, cables, racks, firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP, PPP, MPLS. IPSEC/GRE VPN tunnels
  • Advanced knowledge in network design (Servers, firewalls, protocols, topologies), TCP/IP protocol suite, ARP, routing, subnetting, ethernet switching, spanning-tree, network security, VLAN’s, QoS, OSI model and Linux firewalls, DNS, SMTP, EIGRP, BGP4
  • Understanding of GroupQOS on the iDirect Platform
  • Experience with iDirect NMS tools (iMonitor, iBuilder and iSite)
  • Solid understanding of systems management competencies, i.e. fault, configuration, auditing, performance, and security monitoring
  • Experience working with Cisco Systems, Windows and Linux
  • Experience working with wireless networks, specifically around HSPA, HSPA+ and LTE products
  • Confident, independent and self-motivated, with very good problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A bias for action - the ability to not only plan and delegate, but to lead and/or take the initiative to ensure that actions and projects are on track
  • Willing to participate in an on-call rotation
